A
series of scenes and monologues depicting mothers who will go to ANY
length for their progeny, leading to disastrous and hilarious results. Included in the
evening are "Entertaining Lesbians", which premiered off-off-Broadway in
2004's Manhattan Fall Collection Festival, and "A Lifetime Original
Movie Starring Judith Light", which filters the plotlines of 23 Lifetime
Television movies into one woman's very, very bad day.
The structure of
"Bad Mama" is conceived as a scripted variation of the
"Harold" format, a form of improvisational comedy created by Del
Close. "Bad Mama"
is actually three short plays, each consisting of three scenes.
The audience sees the first scene of each play, then the second
scene of each play, and finally the conclusion of each.
The individual scenes are tied by a common theme, and then,
remarkably, it all comes together in the end.
