Joan Crawford Says...

I know I've got a bit of a Joan fetish, and folks love to give me a hard time about it.  But the fact is, that lady had pearls of wisdom for every occasion.  Personal fitness is no exception.

We Can Work It Out...

The first of the four days of workouts is now available for download, with handy pointers from Kevin and me via YouTube.  In today's column:  Some tips on setting yourself up for success, and what the hell you're supposed to eat while you're doing this.

Track Your Progress!

Take a few minutes at the end of each day to record WHAT YOU DID, WHAT YOU ATE, and WHEN YOU GOT YOUR BODY MOVING.  It's a combination fitness journal, nutrition log, and datebook page.  How many days did you skip breakfast?  How many days did you complete your workout?  I'm sure there's an app for this, but I'm not that technological.  What can I say?  I'm a writer.  I like paper.  It soothes me.

Welcome to Your Workout

The Downsizing Plan is a four-day-per-week workout targeting specific muscle groups each day.  You pick the day, you pick the time, but you commit to your four days each week.  The routine goes by surprisingly fast, especially with some good music.  Make no mistake, it is a demanding workout.  But it's okay to start making those demands of your body, and yourself.  Try Workout One, and see where your challenges are in the first attempt.  Then take a day off, and try it again, pushing yourself to the end.  And then we'll move on to Workout #2...

The Journey Begins...

Well, there's no turning back now.  "Downsizing" officially launched today on Project Q, and I exposed my flabby self on the internet forever and ever.  The very idea of me writing a health and fitness column still cracks me up.  I live on a diet of cigarettes, coffee, and chocolate.  But I suppose that's why I'm doing it: I don't have a spin class or a Biggest Loser Ranch to get me through- I have fifty bucks, whatever's in my house, and my own fear of humiliation.  And if I can make it work on that, anyone can.  If you want to play along (and I hope you do), check out the intro on Project Q, pick up the three items on your shopping list, and let's get started.
