I'm Back in the Columnist Biz

I've joined The GA Voice team with a new column, "Domestically Disturbed," sharing the adventures of a couple of boys from Mississippi who got hitched and moved to the suburbs.

I hope my husband enjoyed privacy while it lasted, because now I'm taking notes again.  You'll find me here.

Creative Loafing Best of Atlanta 2010:

Reader's Choice for BEST LOCAL PLAYWRIGHT!

Thanks so much to everyone who voted.  You made my Mama and Daddy very proud of me.  So proud, in fact, that they're almost willing to overlook the photo that accompanied the honor:

BEST OF ATLANTA 2010:  BEST LOCAL PLAYWRIGHT

CHRISTINA DARLING NOMINEE FOR BEST ORIGINAL WORK AT MAT AWARDS

Congrats to the cast and crew of "Christina Darling," nominated for Best Original Work at the 2010 Metro Atlanta Theatre Awards.  The Process Theatre Company, for whom I've served as Literary Manager since 2004, was the most-nominated company at this year's awards, and won for Best Overall Production for the second year in a row.  Last year, they won for my play, "Above the Fold."  This time, it was for Del Shores' "Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife."

GA VOICE BEST OF ATLANTA- TWO AWARDS!

Readers of The GA Voice named me Best Local Writer and Best Actor in the 2010 Best of Atlanta Awards.  Thanks to all who voted!

A special congratulations to the remarkable cast of Stage Door Players' production of Beached Wails:  Jackie Prucha, Kathy Simmons, Kathleen McCook, Amanda Cucher, and Josh Donahue, who were recognized as the season's Best Ensemble at the 2010 Woodie Awards. In addition, Josh Donahue was named Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Randy Bradford, Chuck Welcome won for Set Design, Dan Bauman won for Sound Design, and Robert Egizio won Best Director

Stage Door Players has a fantastic season planned for 2010-2011, including a staging of Butterflies are Free, which I've never had the chance to see on stage, so I'm excited.  Find out more at their website.

LAKEBOTTOM PROPER development continues...

First draft is complete, had a fantastic dining room table reading with friends before embarking on edits.  It just so happens that my friends are fabulously talented actors, the kind of people playwrights dream about.  So big thanks to Eve Krueger, Doug Graham, Barbara Washington, Jo Howarth, Joey Ellington, Amanda Cucher, Elisa Carlson, and Kristin Kalbli for helping bring this new baby to life.

We close the season at Springer Opera House in May, 2011.  Which is way sooner than you think.

EVELYN in Boot Camp

Thanks to the Ethel Woolsen Lab at Working Title Playwrights, Evelyn in Purgatory had a two week intensive workshop, directed by Patricia Henritze.  The Dramaturg was Suehyla El-Attar.  The development process was extraordinarily detailed, quite painful at times, and ultimately incredibly useful.  WTP rocks my socks.  Big thanks to my actors:  Bobbie Elzey, Mark Gray, Megan Hayes, Shelly McCook, Stacy Melich, and Matt Myers.
